About Me
Andres Mercado-Lopez Jr.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Botany at the University of Florida, with a focus on mycology, microbiology, and environmental systems. My academic interests center on understanding plant and fungal biology and applying this knowledge to areas such as sustainability, agriculture, and global health. Through my coursework and research experience, I have developed a foundation in systematics, genomics, and ecological analysis, which continues to guide my academic and professional direction.
Beyond academics, I maintain a strong connection to both science and creativity. I am actively involved in producing music and DJing within the electronic music community, with the goal of performing at live events in the near future. For me, music is not only a creative outlet, but also a space where community, environment, and well-being intersect. I am particularly interested in bridging my background in mycology with the EDM community by promoting awareness of fungi and their role in supporting immunity, overall health, and sustainable living.
This connection is rooted in my broader interest in natural systems and their applications to human well-being. I spend time foraging for mushrooms and exploring different ecosystems, which has strengthened my understanding of fungal diversity and ecological relationships. These experiences have reinforced my belief that fungi can play an important role not only in environmental systems, but also in areas such as medicine and nutrition. Through this perspective, I aim to encourage others to better understand these organisms and explore ways to incorporate them into their own lives, including learning about cultivation and the concept of growing natural, sustainable sources of health support.
Traveling has further expanded this interest, allowing me to experience diverse environments and observe how plant and fungal systems vary across regions. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for global biodiversity and have motivated me to pursue work that applies scientific knowledge in culturally relevant and accessible ways.
I also enjoy attending music festivals, particularly within the EDM community, where I am inspired by the energy, creativity, and collective experience. These environments have influenced my desire to contribute not only as an artist, but also as someone who can promote awareness of health, sustainability, and the role of natural systems within these communities.
My journey is grounded in faith, and I give all glory to God for the opportunities, growth, and experiences I have been blessed with. I remain committed to using my skills and knowledge in ways that contribute positively to both scientific advancement and community well-being.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and God bless.
